Sugar, a love affair with something sweet!
Why oh why little sugar drop, why do I love you so? What treasure hides dear sweetness in your crystal ball? Wrapped inside a tasty treat is dulce for us all.
Sugar it’s addictive, and we eat way to much! The average American eats 20 teaspoons of sugar each day, wait really, yes really! Once you count up all the added sugar in morning drinks like coffee (check your creamer for sugar content), sodas, energy drinks, energy bars, crackers, salad dressings, condiments, and cereals you will be surprised. Start reading your food labels, with special attention to the fact that sugar has over 60 different names. Often you will find it listed numerous times on the ingredient list, under several different names.
The average person should be aiming to consume 6-9 teaspoons of sugar each day or 20-30 grams.
Complex sugars like vegetables and fruits should replace added sugars. Complex carbohydrates like those found in vegetables and fruits contain fiber and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients) needed for cellular function, so eat up a rainbow of fresh color.
